Computer Basics

 

The following short classes are intended for the home computer user. Register for one, two or three classes – learn the basics with no pressure of exams. Students enrolled in these classes are invited to use our practice lab on Monday afternoons from 1:30 – 3:30 pm.

Intro to Computers

Cost:  $60

Sessions:  1

Provides a basic introduction to computers and assistive technology. Both keyboard and mouse techniques are demonstrated.

 

Section 01:  Wednesday, September 10, 1:30-3:30 pm

Section 02:  Tuesday, October 7, 1:30-3:30 pm

Section 03:  Tuesday, November 18, 1:30-3:30 pm

Typing

Sessions: 8

 

Learn basic touch-typing or brush up on your skills using large print or speech assistive software.

Section 01:  Tuesdays, September 16 - November 4, 10 am - 12 pm

(Because of Rosh Hashanah, class normally given on September 30 will be moved to Thursday, October 2)

Section 02:  Saturdays, September 20 - November 8, 10:00 am - 12:00 p.m.

Internet Basics

Learn to browse the Internet using screen magnification and/or a screen reader.

Prerequisite:  Basic typing skills, Intro to Computers seminar

A basic introduction to the Guide menus, large print and speech features, and test your typing skills.

NEW:  Introduction to GUIDE

Cost: $150

Sessions: 4

 

GUIDE is a self-contained program for people who are visually impaired or blind, created for the novice. GUIDE has a built-in screen reader and large print.  Training will include basic features such as:  writing letters, sending and receiving email, surfing the internet and more. 

 

Prerequisite:  Guide Assessment, demonstrating basic typing skill, and GUIDE on a computer at home (this includes a working copy of a 30-day demonstration copy)
